Purdy completed 292 of 407 passes for 3,188 yards, or 71.7% of his attempts, in his final season with the Hawkeyes in 2021. He also had 19 touchdown passes and eight interceptions in 13 games.

He declared his NFL draft eligibility in 2022, but he was not regarded as a top prospect.

The 262nd choice in the draft, Brock Purdy, who later adopted the moniker "Mr. Irrelevant," became the first quarterback to start a regular-season game as quarterback.

I simply want to go out there and show myself that I can play at this level, regardless of where, what round, or what club I was selected by. That has always been my way of thinking, Purdy said before making his entrance.

What was the scenario like for you to take ownership?

Trey Lance, who had been selected to be the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback, broke his ankle in Week 2 and was out for the remainder of the season.

Lance's replacement, Jimmy Garoppolo, did a fantastic job and helped the team contend for the NFC West championship.

But in Week 13, during a game against the Miami Dolphins, Garoppolo broke his foot early on, necessitating the introduction of Brock Purdy.

Purdy completed 25 of his 37 throws for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception during the contest; the Niners won 33-17.

He defeated Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-7 in his debut game.

Brock Purdy amassed 332 yards and four touchdowns—three through the air and one through the ground—in the Wild Card.

He then made history by becoming the first rookie quarterback in the NFL to score four touchdowns in the postseason.

With a 19-12 victory against the Dallas Cowboys earlier today, the San Francisco 49ers moved to the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
