Bank of America says the problem with Zelle transactions is resolved

Customers who were upset with Bank of America and Zelle reported major concerns on social media on Wednesday. Users reported that money was missing from their accounts, but neither firm could provide a satisfactory response.

Someone wrote, "It's amazing how @BankofAmerica magically erased a sizable Zelle transaction that I had used to pay bills and that had already been posted. My checking account is badly overdrawn as a result of my inability to contact them. Unbelievable." As of 3 p.m. ET, according to Bank of America, the problem had been resolved. The business told NPR that Bank of America was to blame for the problem, and millions of users utilize the payment tool Zelle to send and receive money. "Transactions on the Zelle Network outside of Bank of America are not impacted," a business representative claimed.

The Zelle support account on Twitter responded to angry customers by saying that Bank of America appeared to be the source of the problem.

In response to a query, the account tweeted, "Both the Zelle Network and App are live. We are aware of an issue affecting Bank of America customers while sending and receiving payments. We suggest contacting Bank of America's customer service division for more details."

Around 10:30 a.m. ET, the website Downdetector saw a dramatic rise in reports of Bank of America outages. Similar to this, as early as 9 a.m. ET, Downdetector noticed an uptick in Zelle users reporting outages. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, a Democrat, tweeted her displeasure of both companies in response to customer complaints. Money is vanishing from accounts, thus she said that Bank of America and Zelle "appears to be failing clients once again. Consumers should be compensated, and this needs to be fixed very away. This is only Zelle's most recent error—I've already addressed the company's serious fraud issues.

Warren has long been critical of Zelle and called for tighter controls on the website. The value of fraudulent Zelle transactions in 2021 was estimated to be around $500 million, according to a research that Warren published in October.
